From January 15 to 16, 2015, WRI and the World Bank co-hosted Transforming Transportation 2015 in Washington, D.C. Under the theme of “Smart Cities for Shared Prosperity”, the event examined how smart cities and urban mobility can improve quality of life in cities from the perspectives of data technology, governance and climate change. Dr. Andrew Steer, WRI President and CEO, Pierre Guislain, Senior Director for Transport and ICT Global Practice at the World Bank and Felipe Calderon, Former President of Mexico, joined global senior decision-makers, world-famous experts and scholars and representatives from international organizations in sharing visions about sustainable urban development.

For the first time, the conference held a sub-forum on China, showcasing China’s progress in sustainable mobility and low-carbon development on the international platform. It aimed to stimulate and inspire contribution from organizations and the public to sustainable cities and transportation, create a livable urban environment and explore pathways toward low-carbon urbanization that suits China’s national conditions. XUE Lulu, Associate at EMBARQ China, shared the pilot case of Shenzhen, and explored how Chinese cities can pursue sustainable transportation and urbanization to finance transportation in a more sustainable way through “Rail Plus Property” development.
