WRI China and Institute for Contemporary China Studies at Tsinghua University will co-host the “Stories to Watch” event on February 28, 2014, at the Tsinghua University in Beijing. Manish Bapna, WRI’s Executive Vice President and Managing Director, and Dr. HU Angang, Director of Institute for Contemporary China Studies at Tsinghua University, will co-present insights into the major events that will impact the environment, sustainability and development of China and the world as a whole in 2014.

As we enter 2014, the world is continuing to face tough challenges in sustainability: how will cities grow? How will proposed U.S. EPA emissions standards impact the power sector? Will China make progress on its pollution challenges? What can we expect from the UN General Secretary’s Climate Summit? How can the world adequately feed more than 9 billion people by 2050 in a manner that advances economic development and reduces pressure on the environment?

China will safeguard national food security and continue to pursue the sustainable development of agriculture according to the Central Economic Work Conference held last December. China makes rural reform a priority in 2014,,underscored by the No. 1 Central Document (a key policy document annually issued jointly by the Communist Party's Central Committee and the State Council) released this January.

Against this background, together with experts from Tsinghua University, WRI will bring the World Resources Report 2013-2014: Creating a Sustainable Food Future: Interim Findings to the discussion regarding how to safeguard the food security of China and the world.
