The ways we produce and consume food and use our land cost $12 trillion a year in damage to people and the planet. If we do nothing, this will amount to $16 trillion a year by 2050.

FOLU proposes a reform agenda centered around ten critical transitions that would enable food and land use systems to provide food security and healthy diets for a growing global population, while also tackling climate, biodiversity, health and poverty challenges – all while unlocking $4.5 trillion a year in new business opportunities!

FOLU is a community of organisations and individuals committed to the urgent need to transform the way we produce and consume food and use our land for people, nature and climate.

We support science-based solutions and help build a shared understanding of the challenges and opportunities to unlock collective, ambitious action. We build on the work of the Food, Agriculture, Biodiversity, Land Use and Energy (FABLE) Consortium teams which operate in more than 20 countries.

The specifics of the transition areas will inevitably vary from one country to the next, and from one community to the next. But all countries and communities could benefit from taking a holistic approach to the transformation of food and land use systems, combining the opportunities that are becoming available in terms of nutritious food, nature-based solutions, wider choice and supply, and opportunity for all. There is hope and we all have a part to play.
