Climate change is here, and its impacts are growing more severe. The impacts from severe droughts, fiercer storms, heatwaves, sea level rise and more disproportionately affect vulnerable communities. Climate resilience saves lives, reduces poverty, addresses underlying inequalities and delivers strong economic returns. Global efforts to slow climate change are promising, but insufficient. Accelerating adaptation means making climate risks visible, factoring those risks and adaptation responses into government and business decisions, supporting locally led adaptation and mobilizing finance for climate-resilient solutions.

WRI works to build resilience for the country and subnational regions by advancing critical adaptation initiatives and research across multiple areas. Some of these areas include:

  • Mainstream climate adaptation and resilience into the authorities and decision-makers' work and help them understand and manage climate risks, and attach importance to climate adaptation
  • Develop climate risk assessment tools and promote their application to support the scientifical assessment of the climate change impacts
  • Identify adaptation action plans in key areas, such as, infrastructure and agriculture, and ensure their implementations
  • Develop innovative financial tools and enhance climate adaptation finance by engaging with governments, financial institutions and practitioners
  • Facilitate exchanges and discussions on climate adaptation, and strengthen local capacity
