Climate Mitigation
We support national and local governments to achieve peak carbon performance and carbon neutrality as soon as possible, and industrial parks and enterprises to strengthen their emission reduction ambitions and actions, so as to jointly contribute to the low-carbon and high-quality development of the economy and society.
Climate mitigation focuses on how to reduce greenhouse gas emissions at source. Since the Paris Agreement was struck, many countries have made significant progress in ramping up their plans to reduce emissions. However, these plans are still not as ambitious as needed to limit the most dangerous impacts of climate change and build a sustainable global economy.
We work with policymakers, businesses, civil society and others to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Through scientific research and realistic solutions, we support national and local governments to achieve peak carbon and carbon neutrality as soon as possible, and industrial parks and enterprises to strengthen their emission reduction ambitions and actions, to jointly contribute to low-carbon and high-quality development of the economy and society. In China, we provide greenhouse gas mitigation advice in the following areas:
- Provide greenhouse gas accounting methods and tools for enterprises, regions, products and projects through the Greenhouse Gas Accounting Standard System (GHGP).
- By analysing national, provincial and municipal decarbonisation pathways, we identify key emission reduction measures in key industries, and innovate low-carbon development policies through modelling tools (e.g. energy policy simulation model, long-term energy substitution planning model).
- Conduct climate change policy research, e.g. dual carbon control, carbon market, carbon labelling.
