Dr. Ran Wei is the Chief of Staff at the World Resources Institute (WRI) Beijing Representative Office. She oversees the Executive Office and works closely with the management team and support staff to ensure seamless cross-departmental collaboration. Externally, she builds and maintains relationships with key stakeholders; internally, she drives high-quality project delivery. She also establishes cross-cutting strategic task forces, streamlines processes, designs flagship events, and fosters an open, collaborative institutional culture.

Previously, she served as Head of the Marine Programme at UNESCO’s Regional Office for Central America, leading marine conservation and sustainable development efforts across Latin America and the Caribbean. At the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), she was deeply engaged in China’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), gaining extensive experience in international sustainable-governance processes.

She holds a Ph.D. in Marine Climate Geochemistry from the Max Planck Institute for Chemistry, with long-standing research focused on the ocean–climate nexus.
